eSIM Compatible Phones: Complete 2026 List

Planning to use an eSIM for your next trip? First question: does your phone even support it? Not all phones have eSIM capability. Budget phones often don't. Older phones definitely don't. And even some newer phones have regional restrictions where eSIM is disabled depending on where you bought it. This gets confusing fast. Here's everything you need to know about which phones work with eSIM in 2026, based on Globie's tested compatibility list.

Quick Check: Does Your Phone Support eSIM?

Before scrolling through device lists, here are three ways to check your specific phone right now:

Method 1: Dial *#06#

Open your phone's dialer and type *#06#

If you see an EID number (32 digits) alongside your IMEI, your phone supports eSIM. This works on both iPhone and Android.

Method 2: Check Settings (iPhone)

Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan)

If you see this option, you're good to go.

Method 3: Check Settings (Android)

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add SIM

Samsung users: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM

If the option appears, your phone supports eSIM.

Important: Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked to use travel eSIMs like Globie. A locked phone only works with that carrier's eSIM, not third-party providers.

Regional Restrictions to Know

Even if your phone model supports eSIM, it might not work depending on where you bought it:

US Carrier Phones:
Samsung and some Google Pixel phones sold through US carriers often have eSIM disabled. iPhones from US carriers work fine.

China:
Most phones bought in China don't support eSIM (hardware restriction).

Hong Kong/Macao:
Most iPhones don't support eSIM except specific models like iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, SE 2020.

South Korea:
Some Samsung phones support eSIM only for Korean carriers, not international eSIM providers.

How to Check If Your Phone Is Unlocked

Even if your phone supports eSIM, it needs to be carrier-unlocked to use travel eSIMs.

iPhone:
Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock

If it says "No SIM restrictions," you're unlocked.

Android:
Try inserting a SIM from a different carrier. If it works, you're unlocked.

Still Locked?
Contact your carrier and request an unlock. Most carriers unlock phones after your contract ends or once you've paid off the device.

Setting Up Your First eSIM

Once you've confirmed your phone supports eSIM:

  1. Choose your destination - Browse Globie's destinations
  2. Get your QR code - Sent to your email instantly after purchase
  3. Scan and install - Go to your phone's eSIM settings, scan the code
  4. Activate on arrival - Turn on the eSIM when you land

The whole process takes 2-5 minutes.

For detailed instructions, check out Globie's eSIM installation guide.

Common Installation Issues (And How to Fix Them)

iPhone Won't Install eSIM - "Server Can't Be Found" Error

If you're tapping the eSIM activation link and Safari opens a "server can't be found" error instead of installing — you're not alone. This is a known issue on older iPhone models like the iPhone 14 Pro.

The Fix:

Open the activation email on a second device (a laptop, tablet, or another phone) and scan the QR code with the iPhone that needs data. That's it. The install completes normally and you're good to go.

This happens because older devices or outdated iOS versions can mishandle the eSIM provisioning link, redirecting to esimsetup.apple.com instead of triggering the install. Newer devices like the iPhone 17 don't seem to have this problem.

If the QR code workaround doesn't work, check these:

  • Your iPhone is carrier-unlocked
  • You're connected to Wi-Fi during installation
  • Your iOS is up to date
  • The activation link hasn't already been used (they're single-use)

Other Common Issues

"Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change"
Your phone is probably carrier-locked. Contact your carrier to unlock it.

eSIM Won't Activate
Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi and in your destination country. Some eSIMs only activate when you arrive.

Can't Find the Add eSIM Option
Your phone might not support eSIM, or it's been disabled by your carrier. Dial *#06# to check for an EID number.

The Bottom Line

Your phone supports eSIM if:

  • It's an iPhone XS or newer
  • It's a Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer (regional exceptions apply)
  • It's a Google Pixel 2 or newer (regional exceptions apply)
  • It's a recent flagship from Motorola, Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus, Huawei, Sony, or Honor

Your phone does NOT support eSIM if:

  • It's an iPhone X or older
  • It's a Samsung Galaxy S10 or older
  • It's most budget Android phones
  • It was purchased in a region with eSIM restrictions

Still not sure? Dial *#06# and look for an EID number. If you see it, you're compatible.
